Resilience Expert

(Disaster Risk Reduction)

As a Resilience Expert DRR you have good Programme Management skills and extensive experience in working in fragile areas. In 2018, your focus will be on the initiation and management of our DRR programme in Burundi and other Cordaid focus countries.

What you do

  • You will support the DRR teams in Burundi and various other focus countries with Technical Expertise in DRR programme design, implementation, and innovation.
  • You are able to and enjoy giving trainings to colleagues and partner organisations on topics like: Community Managed DRR and Resilient Recovery programming .
  • You will work closely with the DRR colleagues from head office and country offices to deliver input into the DRR knowledge management and learning agenda, the DRR portfolio partnership building, project design and proposal writing.
  • You assess calls from donors and work on behalf of the unit on proposals. You make sure writing of the proposals is done in coherence with other proposals in the programme unit / country.
  • You cooperate closely with the DRR advocacy expert in developing (local) partnerships among peers, local organisations, research institutes and other potential partnership organisations.
  • You assess the needs for technical assignments based on the demand from the market and you develop expertise in these areas.
  • You formulate research objectives matching current/new programmes and feeding the innovation agenda on the two focal topics. You prepare a budget for the research and acquire finance for the costs. 

Who you are

  • You have (as a minimum) a master’s degree in Disaster Risk Reduction or related field. Higher level is an asset. Specific knowledge and expertise on DRR in fragile settings is also an asset.
  • You have at least 5 years of experience as a Resilience Expert
  • Good working knowledge of French is a requirement.
  • You have demonstrable knowledge and experience of delivering training and technical advise (short term) missions, research methods, sources of funding, donor requirements.
  • You have social/communication skills to guide partners to results, to negotiate and to create support, and to deal with multiple complex assignments.
  • You have programme management skills. You also have experience with project based working.
  • You have writing skills to formulate program and project plans and proposals.
  • You are willing to travel (around 30% of work time) to implementation countries (fragile areas).

  • a maximum gross monthly salary up to  € 4847,- based on a 36-hour working week and depending on relevant years of experience;
  • a holiday allowance of 8% and an end of year allowance of 8,3%;
  • a fulltime position (36 hours) initially for one year.
