Internship: Gender & Food Systems

(32 hours)

Location: The Hague, The Netherlands

Cordaid is looking for a new intern Gender & Food Systems at the Global Office (The Hague) for the period between February 2025 and June 2025. Are you interested in making a difference in the lives of people living in fragile and conflict affected areas? Are you interested in ensuring everyone can have access to food, income, finance, etc.?

At Cordaid, we aim to accompany and guide our interns to contribute to the work of the team but also to provide them with the opportunity to follow their own specific interests, and to learn and develop themselves in their own chosen subjects.  It is strongly encouraged in this function to have a pro-active nature, take initiative and develop your own learning plan. 

Main activities of internship: 

  • Support in the development of a policy brief, practical guidelines and a tool on the integration of a gender transformative approach in our thematic area of Sustainable Agri-Food Systems (SAFS); and support the mapping of relevant key resource persons and networks on this topic in our focus countries.  
  • Be an active member and support the Gender Community of Practice
  • Be an active member and support the SAFS Community of Practice

 Criteria for applicants: 

  • This position is open for students currently enrolled in a relevant degree in the field of International Development, Rural Development, Food Systems, Conflict Studies, etc.  
  • Candidates must be able to work in the EU and meet the administrative requirements for working in the Netherlands (by obtaining a BSN number).
  • Students who have an interest in gender issues related to international development cooperation.
  • Students who have knowledge about rural development, preferably with food systems, agricultural value chain development or market system development.
  • Full proficiency of the English language is required.
  • Proficiency in French language is recommended.
  • Excellent writing, drafting and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a diverse team.
  • Because of the communication and collaboration with country offices worldwide, enthusiasm about working internationally is required.
  • A proactive, open and curious attitude.
  • Being able to work independently.
  • Solution oriented.
  • Positive attitude and a good sense of humour. 

What we offer

  • The internship will be up to 6 months, on a 32-hour workweek basis (4 days/week). The compensation will be up to € 500,- based on a full-time contract (36-hour). 
  • In principle, the internship will take place in the office in The Hague, but working from home is possible for 50% of the time.
