Programme Manager Humanitarian Aid
(36 hours, The Hague, in the Netherlands or any of the Cordaid countries of operation)
The Humanitarian Aid team is part of the Cordaid Programme Delivery Unit and fulfils Cordaid’s humanitarian mandate. Driven by humanitarian principles, the highly motivated Cordaid HA team in The Hague and in different countries in Africa, Middle East and Asia, are saving lives and livelihoods of the most vulnerable, crisis affected people. We provide needs-based humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict or natural disasters. As part of Cordaid’s commitment to the Grand Bargain, we prioritize implementation by local actors whenever possible and add our expertise wherever needed, to timely reply to acute and protracted crises. All of our interventions are in line with international principles and standards for humanitarian aid such as SPHERE and CHS. Cordaid is part of ACT Alliance and Caritas; both networks comprise of local and international members and provide Cordaid a global coverage and worldwide access to all corners of affected communities.
The Programme Manager Humanitarian Aid (HA) is part of a team of enthusiastic humanitarians with different expertise and backgrounds and strong values, and led by the humanitarian imperative defined as “the obligation of the international community to provide humanitarian assistance wherever it is needed."
What you do
You work closely together with the Cordaid HA Teams at GO and humanitarian colleagues in Africa, Middle East and Asia and together you develop their humanitarian strategy, portfolio and secure institutional funding. Depending on your background and expertise, you also provide the necessary technical support including training and capacity building of country teams and partners, ensuring projects are properly implemented in line with Cordaid’s HA Strategy and Humanitarian Standards including SPHERE and CHS and, of course, in line with available budgets. As such, you are expected to travel frequently and you are supposed to support humanitarian colleagues in the countries where we provide humanitarian assistance and local Caritas and ACT organisations with their humanitarian response. In summary, we expect you to think strategic, but at the same time, you need to be hands-on. You will be part of a dynamic, principled, rather outspoken and highly motivated team where we provide each other with support as and when needed, within the team and through wider experts within Cordaid.
Who you are
- You have a good understanding of Humanitarian Aid, its principles and latest developments;
- You have demonstrated experience in establishing humanitarian projects including design, start up and development of emergency interventions;
- You have at least 2-3 years professional experience in Humanitarian Aid abroad;
- You can support complex projects with different country offices and a variety of national and local partners in several countries and have a hands-on approach when needed, for example with developing and providing (in)formal trainings and providing technical assistance on project implementation;
- Ideally you have proven experience working with institutional donors like ECHO, Dutch Relief Alliance, CHF;
- You are willing and able to travel on a regular basis and do short/medium term field missions;
- You are flexible and a team player;
- You speak excellent English and preferably also French;
- You have social/communication skills to acquire, network, manage relationships and to cooperate with international parties and you have knowledge, tolerance and respect for religions and cultures;
- But most of all, you are super motivated, energetic and driven, have a sense of humor, you want to make a difference and be part of our team.
